Reporting Fraud

Strong internal controls are key to minimizing workplace fraud.  Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, fraud still occurs from time to time.  If you suspect or witness fraudulent activity in the workplace, there are several avenues for reporting fraud/suspected fraud.

If fiscal irregularities are observed or suspected, please refer to the UMBC Procedures for Reporting and Investigating Suspected or Known Fiscal Irregularities

If you believe you have received a phishing email, please forward that email to security@umbc.edu

If fraud is suspected, MAS asks that you consider contacting us via email at meganche@umbc.edu or by telephone at 410-455-1620.  For those that wish to remain anonymous in bringing an allegation of potential fraud, please contact us electronically via this form.  Every effort will be made to keep your identify confidential, or you may choose to remain anonymous.

UMBC Whistleblower Guidance sets  forth the University’s guidelines and procedures related to filing a complaint of suspected or actual illegal or unethical conduct and complaints of retaliation for good faith reporting.

Both the University System of Maryland (USM) Office of Internal Audit and the State of Maryland Office of Legislative Audits (OLA) offer anonymous hotlines by which individuals may report suspected fraudulent activity.  Both reporting options offer a toll-free phone number as well as the option of online referrals.

If you suspect fraud, waste, or abuse, you may reach out anonymously to the USM OIA Hotline.

The Office of Legislative Audits operates a hotline to receive allegations of fraud, waste, or abuse of State government resources.

Again, both options are completely anonymous and all information given is considered confidential.
