Meet the Staff



Sharon D. Doherty-Ritter, MBA, CPA

Sharon began her career at UMBC in January 2001, after spending the majority of her career in the auditing arena both for the State of Maryland, Office of Legislative Audits and in public accounting.

Sharon is a CPA and earned her MBA from the University of Maryland – University College. In her role as Director of Management Advisory Services (MAS), she acts as the Campus audit liaison (A-133, Federal, State and USM Internal) and jointly provides internal control training to faculty and staff. Additionally, she coordinates financial planning and analysis related to Campus privatized housing projects and is responsible for analyzing business and operating procedures to devise most efficient and effective methodologies.

Sharon has one daughter who is a student at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, is an avid sports enthusiast and enjoys spending time with friends and family.



David A. Sohns

David started working in MAS in 2013 after spending 9 years as a Financial Analyst at the University of Maryland, College Park.

David earned his B.A. from the University of Maryland – College Park.  His role in MAS includes conducting routine P-Card financial and operational reviews to ensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures and making recommendations for improvements, including new cardholder reviews and monthly purchase monitoring.  David jointly conducts training in basic internal control education as well as proper purchasing card and departmental card utilization.  He also acts as the audit liaison on assigned audits and serves as the Policy Liaison for UMBC.

David is a father of three children.  His personal interests include fishing, camping, home improvement and playing drums in a rock band.
